How to Change Pattern Size in Photoshop

Photoshop is a powerful tool for graphic designers, photographers, and artists. One of its many features is the ability to work with patterns. Patterns are useful for creating textures, backgrounds, and other design elements. However, sometimes you may need to adjust the size of a pattern to fit your specific design needs. In this article, we will guide you through the process of how to change pattern size in Photoshop.

Step 1: Open the Pattern Editor

To change the size of a pattern in Photoshop, you first need to open the Pattern Editor. To do this, go to the “Window” menu and select “Pattern.” This will open the Pattern Editor window, where you can view and edit your patterns.

Step 2: Select the Pattern

In the Pattern Editor, you will see a list of all the patterns currently available in your Photoshop workspace. Scroll through the list and select the pattern you want to change the size of. Once you have selected the pattern, it will appear in the main editing area of the Pattern Editor.

Step 3: Adjust the Pattern Size

Now that you have selected the pattern, you can adjust its size. To do this, click on the “Edit” menu at the top of the Pattern Editor window and select “Edit Pattern.” This will open a new window where you can modify the pattern’s size.

In the “Edit Pattern” window, you will see a preview of the pattern along with options to adjust its size. To change the pattern size, click on the “Resize” button. This will open a new window where you can specify the new width and height of the pattern.

Enter the desired width and height values in the respective fields. You can also choose to maintain the aspect ratio of the pattern by checking the “Constrain Proportions” box. Once you have entered the new size, click “OK” to apply the changes.

Step 4: Save the Pattern

After adjusting the pattern size, you need to save the changes. Click on the “File” menu in the “Edit Pattern” window and select “Save.” Choose a location on your computer to save the modified pattern, and give it a new name if desired. Click “Save” to finalize the changes.

Step 5: Use the Modified Pattern

Now that you have saved the modified pattern, you can use it in your Photoshop projects. To apply the pattern as a background or texture, go to the “Layer” menu and select “New Fill Layer” > “Pattern.” In the “Pattern Fill” dialog box, choose the modified pattern from the dropdown menu and click “OK.”
